A discreet correction of dental misalignments is often desired by our adult patients, as they generally show a low acceptance for traditional fixed braces.
Orthodontic treatment for adults includes both aesthetic and functional correction of dental misalignments (crooked teeth) as well as the treatment of jaw misalignments. Additionally, we treat patients who require combined orthodontic and orthognathic surgical therapy. The surgical intervention is usually complemented by pre- and post-treatment from your orthodontist. Furthermore, we offer pre-treatment from your orthodontist to create ideal conditions for optimal prosthetic care.
In our specialized orthodontic practice for children, adolescents, and adults, as well as dental sleep medicine, we offer particularly invisible solutions for correcting dental misalignments to our adult patients.
What is Lingual Technique?
A discreet correction of dental misalignments is often preferred by our adult patients because they are in professional settings and show low acceptance for traditional fixed braces. In this context, we successfully use two different systems of lingual technique. These include the WIN system (from DW Lingual Systems GmbH), which allows us to achieve excellent treatment results in our orthodontic practices.
Both systems are characterized by the use of particularly flat brackets that are attached to the inner side of the teeth (lingual = facing the tongue). These brackets guide the wires, which are replaced by your orthodontist during the treatment phase depending on progress.
The lingual technique offers clear advantages: You get a fixed brace that corrects your misalignment but is not visible to others. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Rose and his team have found that the risk of cavities is significantly (by a factor of 10) reduced due to the lingual technique. Another benefit is that the front teeth are not covered by brackets, allowing our patients to observe the gradual movement of their teeth very clearly.
What Can You Expect?
In the first step, a thorough consultation with your orthodontist takes place, during which it will be determined if your dental misalignment can be treated with a lingual brace. Diagnostic steps will then be initiated, including a clinical examination of the oral cavity, digital impressions of the jaws, and the use of imaging techniques.
Your orthodontist will then evaluate the collected data and develop your individual treatment plan based on this information.
Subsequently, the delicate and highly flattened brackets of the fixed appliance will be made, which will be bonded to the inner side of the teeth after thorough cleaning and preparation of the tooth surfaces. Your orthodontist will then insert an elastic wire into the brackets.
After a short adjustment period, the tongue and oral mucosa will adapt to the new situation, and the patient will no longer find the braces bothersome. If any issues arise, please contact our practice immediately.
Our team ensures that regular check-ups of the treatment progress take place. During these visits, your orthodontist will examine the current tooth positions and replace the elastic wire as needed.
